Child 1:
Dear Santa, I’ve been good all year, will i get a present from you.
Santa:
Dear child, how rich are your parents?
Child 1:
My parents are very rich
like super rich
Santa:
I will definitely send you the best present in the whole world
Child 2:
Dear Santa, I’ve been good all year, will i get a present from you.
Santa:
Dear child, how rich are your parents?
Child 2:
Well, they get by
Santa:
Hmm, tough to say child, i might or might not send you a present
Child 3:
Dear Santa, I’ve been good all year, will i get a present from you.
Santa:
Dear child, how rich are your parents?
Child 3:
My parents don’t have any money, we dont have a home and beg for money to get by.
Santa:
Well child, tough luck, i wont be sending you any presents this year either.

  1. I think this may be a good reason to focus on the other aspects of Christmas. Children who see their peers receive fantastic gifts from “Santa” when they receive one, or none, could lead them to believe they are seen as less deserving. We didn’t volunteer the truth about Santa to our kids until they asked, but always tried to downplay the presents part of the holiday.
